The film festivals in Cannes, Venice and Berlin, considered the three largest cinema events in Europe, have joined 17 other exhibitions to promote a digital event next May 29 to June 7. The “We Are One: A Global Film Festival” will broadcast features and short films, chats, interviews and content for free through the youtube channel
Still without official programming, the curatorship, according to the portal of the magazine Variety, should consist of 20 international events, including the festivals of Annecy, Berlin, London, Cannes, Guadalajara, Macau, Jerusalem, Mumbai, Karlovy Vary, Locarno, Marrakech , New York, San Sebastián, Sarajevo, Sundance, Sydney, Tokyo, Toronto, Tribeca and Venice. Each of the partners will have their individual schedule.
Viewers will be asked to make donations to combat the new coronavirus pandemic. According to YouTube and New York’s Tribeca Enterprises, the goal is to help WHO (World Health Organization) and charities in different parts of the world.
The event is a YouTube partnership with Tribeca Enterprises, a company whose founder Robert De Niro is one of its founders. In an official statement, Jane Rosenthal, CEO of Tribeca Enterprises, said that the idea of the festival is to bring “relief” to people. “We used to talk about the unique and powerful role of films in inspiring and bringing people together across borders to help heal them. Everyone needs healing right now, ”argues Rosenthal, also clarifying that the project does not interfere with the particular planning of festivals, which are trying to reorganize themselves in the face of the pandemic.
